In other news .. becasue I can't seem to get this journal off the ground I decided to go back to my old journal .. belinka .. I think .. ?

Livejournal has become somewhat redundant.

Well it was fantastic to have a warm break from this freezing Australian winter, even tho it was only for 8 days.

My flight home was from 10pm til 10am //dies .. I was sort of 'coming down' from the holiday on the drive back to Newcastle so decided to go out and party on Saturday to avoid reality for as long as possible. And now I have a cold.



So a little about Thailand - I stayed on Phuket island at Patong Beach - it is a very touristy place, I traveled around the South side of the Island and around Phi Phi and Khai Islands which was one of the highlights of the trip. From what I saw Phuket seems to be the land of holidays, perfect climate, beaches and plenty of tourist attractions and things to do and of course cheap shopping. The place lives off tourism and without it there would be poverty. Because of this everyone speaks basic English but I still learnt how to say hello and thank you and greeted the thai people with this whenever I visited somewhere or bought something (because I am polite), strangely they nearly always giggled or laughed after I said it and did my little bow. I'm not sure if it's because it is so rare and no one ever bothers to do this or because I was saying it wrong. I think more the former.

Cheapness! Everything is so cheap and I will be going back for a holiday for this very reason. I spent only $150AUD on entertainment, I saw Simon Cabaret, Fantasea (show and theme park with buffet dinner included), Went elephant trekking about 40mins drive into the countryside, a one day islands tour and taxi ride around the phuket. hmm think that's all but it was great value! Most expensive meal was about $6 and that's eating out at a restaurant every night and cocktails are about $5 unless you get them on happy hour or for some special they are only a couple of dollars. At most resorts a buffet breakfast is included in the accommodation price so you can sleep in a little have a huge buffet breakfast, skip lunch, do some sight seeing and then go out for dinner for $6 .. so it doesn't cost much at all. Am going to try to get a crew together next time so I can do more partying!

Oh and yes I did get my teeth done, it ended up costing more than I thought because I had to get a crown, still have to pay off the credit card. I don't have a picture yet..

Things to do in Patong / Phuket

I have been thinking about moving to Dubai and intended to apply for jobs over there all week this week, decided to get some further info on living there and found this bloggers account, I have heard it's expensive and women can't drink there, to answer this question:

That's all well and good but there is no access to flickr or skype in Dubai. These are the two out of three (other being facebook) most important tools I would be using to stay in contact and communicate with my friends and family in Aus. Had planned on talking to them over webcam on skype.. So that's pretty shitty, apparently they blocked facebook for a certain time but too many people complained. This would be a small deal to some ppl .. but internet restrictions is like the worst to me and has really put me off the idea of living there... :(



I'm glad I found this out now, can you imagine my despair getting to Dubai and then finding I was blocked to all these sites? haha that would be a sight to see.. I would go ballistic!! Just did a google search and there are ways around this blocking but really when you are creating a multicultural society and want expats to work there for only a certain amt of time atleast let them communicate on the internet! gah.

I watched the whole of Big Love Season 1 last weekend, another weekend of being a couch potato. The whole polygamy thing blows my mind. The show got me into researching polygamy in the real world. It just amazes me that people live like this.
